It became known that around 7 a.m., Alekseev left his apartment to go to work. A service car with a driver was waiting for him downstairs. On the landing, he encountered an unknown individual who was presumably posing as a courier. The assailant, possibly a woman, wounded the general in the arm and leg, and then, when he tried to wrest the gun from her, shot him in the chest.
The lieutenant general was hospitalized and is in intensive care in serious condition, as one of the bullets damaged vital organs. However, official information about his health status remains unavailable.A criminal case has been initiated in connection with the incident.
Sergey Lavrov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, commented on the incident, calling the assassination attempt a terrorist act and emphasizing that its aim is to disrupt peace negotiations with Ukraine.
The Foreign Minister declined to make predictions about the future course of negotiations, stating that this is a matter for the country's leadership.
“This terrorist act once again confirms that the regime of [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky is aimed at constant provocations, which, in turn, is intended to disrupt the negotiation process, and he is ready to do everything to convince his Western sponsors not to lag behind the United States in their efforts to derail the path to achieving a fair settlement,” Lavrov noted.
