In 2025, the total number of foreign citizens who sought protection in Russia amounted to 8,820 people. Citizens of Uzbekistan ranked fifth among the countries with the highest number of applications, surpassed only by Ukraine, Syria, Palestine, and Afghanistan. The top ten countries with the most significant number of requests also included Germany, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Israel, and Armenia.
In comparison, in 2024, the number of asylum seekers was lower, totaling 6,879 people. The increase in the total number of applications in 2025 is related to changes in the structure of migration flows: while in the previous year, the majority of applicants were Ukrainians (over 3,700), the current reporting period shows a noticeable expansion in the geography of requests.
