The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Saidov, and Christopher Landau, the First Deputy Secretary of State of the USA, signed an important Memorandum of Understanding. This document concerns the reliability of supply in the field of extraction and processing of critical minerals and rare earth elements, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.
Saidov noted that Uzbekistan views the rare metals sector not just as a source of income but also as a foundation for "responsible partnership and sustainable long-term development."
The U.S. State Department's website mentions that after signing the memorandum, Landau and Saidov discussed the prospects for strategic cooperation between their countries. The main focus was on expanding economic and trade ties, strengthening energy security, and implementing joint projects that would be beneficial for both sides.
The USA expects to deepen cooperation with Uzbekistan in areas such as combating illegal migration, expanding trade relations, and enhancing collaboration within the diplomatic platform C5+1. This platform brings together the United States and five Central Asian countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
