In connection with the early parliamentary elections, a temporary ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages will be introduced in Thailand. This was reported by the country's tourist police, citing the TASS agency.
This restriction will take effect from 6:00 PM on Saturday, February 7, and will last for 24 hours. During this time, the sale and distribution of any alcoholic beverages will be prohibited throughout the country.
The ban will affect all points of sale, including minimarkets, supermarkets, restaurants, and entertainment venues, as well as any events where alcohol is sold.
The police warned of possible consequences for violating this ban: penalties may include up to six months of imprisonment, a fine of up to 10,000 baht (approximately $314), or both types of punishment simultaneously. Citizens and tourists are urged to understand these measures, which are aimed at ensuring fair and peaceful voting.
The early elections for the House of Representatives of the Thai Parliament are scheduled for February 8, 2026. This decision was made following the dissolution of the lower house at the initiative of Prime Minister Anuthin Charnvirakul. A referendum concerning the development of a new constitution for the country will also be held on the day of voting.
