In his statement made on February 4, Zelensky specified: "Currently, it is officially reported in Ukraine that there are 55,000 military personnel killed, both professional and conscripted. Additionally, it is necessary to consider a significant number of missing persons."
Let us remind you that a year ago, in February 2025, the president announced 46,000 fatalities.
Zelensky also noted that for Ukraine, the priority is to end hostilities and expressed hope for achieving peace within the year through active negotiations and diplomatic efforts.
He emphasized that the path of diplomacy does not imply capitulation or agreement with Russian demands. In particular, he pointed out that Moscow's demand for the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donbas is a "red line."
The president added that even a "freezing" of the current front line would be a "significant concession" on Ukraine's part, but he is open to dialogue to preserve the country's independence.
