Imported case of chikungunya fever identified in Russia

According to Rospotrebnadzor, a woman who fell ill with the fever returned to Moscow after a vacation in the Seychelles. The situation is under control, as reported by TASS.

After returning to Russia, she was hospitalized, and tests confirmed the presence of the chikungunya virus.

Rospotrebnadzor noted that the likelihood of spreading this disease in Russia is very low, as the infection is transmitted exclusively through the bites of infected mosquitoes, and not from person to person.

Chikungunya fever is prevalent in endemic regions such as countries in Africa south of the Sahara, Central and South America, Southeast Asia, the Western Pacific region, the Arabian Peninsula, and the Indian subcontinent. Travelers to these areas are advised to use repellents, wear long sleeves and pants, and install mosquito nets and bed canopies.
