According to the agency, the deployment of the American group was the result of an agreement between the USA and Nigeria on the need for efforts against the terrorist threat in West Africa. General Dagwin Anderson, who heads the U.S. Africa Command, noted that the servicemen possess special skills, but did not disclose details of their mission.
According to Reuters sources, the new group may assist in gathering intelligence that will allow Nigerian forces to conduct operations against terrorist groups more effectively. It is worth recalling that earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Nigeria for insufficient protection of Christians from Islamist attacks in the north and west of the country. In response, on December 25, 2025, the USA carried out an airstrike on ISIS positions in northwestern Nigeria, which, according to military sources, was conducted "at the request of Nigerian authorities."
