The Pentagon confirmed the destruction of an Iranian drone in the waters of the Arabian Sea.
The event took place 800 kilometers from the Iranian coast when a U.S. Navy F-35C fighter intercepted a Shahed-139 drone that had dangerously approached the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.
Captain Tim Hawkins, representing the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), stated that the drone was maneuvering towards the carrier strike group and did not respond to attempts at de-escalation in international waters.
The military department stated that the decision to destroy the drone was made in accordance with the right to self-defense to protect the crew and the vessel. The Pentagon noted that the actions of U.S. forces fully comply with international standards.
