Hunnu Air plans to expand its network through fleet modernization

According to MiddleAsianNews, Hunnu Air plans to expand its operations in Southeast Asia, India, and Central Asia thanks to a recent fleet upgrade.

The Mongolian airline Hunnu Air is focused on developing its route network based on the modernization of its E2 aircraft.

According to Törbold Tserenhuu, who heads the company's commercial department, this year the airline will begin flights to Tashkent (Uzbekistan) and plans to open regular flights to Delhi (India), as well as to several cities in Vietnam and the Philippines.

Törbold Tserenhuu shared his plans during an interview with FlightGlobal at the airshow in Singapore, where the new Hunnu aircraft, the Embraer E195-E2, was presented.

The company Hunnu received its first E2 aircraft in May 2025, making it one of the leading operators of this type in the region. The airline also has two Embraer 190 aircraft and two E195-E2, which can carry up to 136 passengers in a two-class configuration.

Törbold notes the "impressive fuel efficiency and range" of the new models, allowing for flights lasting over 6 hours.

Hunnu recently completed one of the longest non-stop flights as part of the E2 project—a charter flight from Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia) to Phu Quoc (Vietnam) lasting 6 hours and 30 minutes.

The E2 aircraft are also used for flights to China, including Daxing Airport in Beijing and the city of Sanya, which is the largest market for the company.

Törbold emphasizes the "geographical advantage" of Mongolia, located between China and Russia, as well as between Central and East Asia.

This position facilitates the creation of a transit network between the two regions, which, in turn, ensures stable demand for air transportation throughout the year. Törbold believes that transit transportation currently occupies a small share of the total volume but hopes for an increase in the future.

Hunnu began its history in the early 2010s, operating flights between Mongolia and major airports in Asia using a small fleet of narrow-body Airbus aircraft. In 2015, the company changed its strategy, focusing on regional and short-haul destinations.

Törbold also mentions that in the future, Hunnu is considering acquiring larger narrow-body aircraft, including Airbus models, to expand its network in the Middle East.
