According to the document, the new nuclear power plant will be built in the Almaty region, near the village of Ulken.

The text of the resolution states: “To make a decision on the construction of the nuclear facility ‘Second Nuclear Power Plant’, and also to determine the area of its location — Zhambyl district of Almaty region.”
The head of the Atomic Energy Agency, Almasadam Satkaliev, previously spoke about the choice of this location in the Mazhilis. He noted that the southern regions of the country are experiencing a serious shortage of electricity, making the construction of a second plant in the south a priority.
The first nuclear power plant is already being built near Ulken and is being implemented by the Russian company Rosatom. Now, the construction of a second nuclear power plant is planned nearby. The government is considering the Chinese company CNNC as a potential contractor.
