The company Neuralink, founded by Elon Musk, has announced the results of two years of testing its neurointerface called Telepathy. This innovative device allows people with paralysis to control various devices, including computers, smartphones, and robotic arms, using only the power of thought, as reported by Kazinform.
The new technology analyzes neural activity related to hand movement and converts it into digital commands, thereby giving users the ability to interact with the surrounding world without the need for physical movement.
During the trials, participants were able to control a cursor, robotic limbs, and even create digital art. For example, Nick, who had been unable to move his hands for four years, learned to eat and scratch himself using a robotic arm. Audrey, in turn, was able to create abstract works independently for the first time in many years and plans to organize an exhibition.
Additionally, Telepathy aids in restoring communication for patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. A thought-based keyboard has been developed, allowing users to type up to 40 words per minute, and a new study called VOICE focuses on restoring speech in real-time. Neuralink emphasizes that the technology continues to evolve, opening new horizons for people with limited physical abilities.
