An Angel with the Face of the Italian Prime Minister Seen in a Fresco of a Roman Basilica
This historic building, founded in the 4th century, was rebuilt in the 17th century. Its decoration involved masters such as Bernini, Rainaldi, Bompiani, and Reni. The latest restoration was carried out under the guidance of Bruno Valentinetti.
Italian media point to the restorer's connections with right-wing political circles, which has sparked rumors about the intentional resemblance of the angel's features to Meloni, who is the leader of the far-right party "Brothers of Italy."
In response to these discussions, Giorgia Meloni herself posted a photo of the fresco on her Instagram and ironically commented:
“Definitely, I don’t look like an angel,” she added, accompanying her post with a laughing emoji.
Italy's Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli has ordered an investigation into the fresco to clarify the details of the work done and possible subsequent steps.
