From January 29 to February 1, the International Ivan Yarygin Cup is taking place in Krasnoyarsk, one of the most popular tournaments in freestyle wrestling at the world level. On the second day, January 30, medals were contested in three men's weight categories and in several weights for women. Details are reported by MiddleAsianNews.

Gold medals were awarded to:

Munkh-Erdene Bathuyag (Mongolia), Chermen Tavitov (Moscow), and David Baev (Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug).

At the tournament in Krasnoyarsk, Munkh-Erdene demonstrated impressive strength and confidence, which allowed him to reach the finals.

In the final match in the 57 kg weight category, Munkh-Erdene faced Musa Mekhtikhanov from Dagestan and won with a score of 8:6.

Tournament results:

One of the most memorable matches for Munkh-Erdene was his victory over Khan Chong Song from North Korea, who is the youngest world champion in his weight class. In the semifinals, the reigning world champion Khan Chong Song unexpectedly lost to the Mongolian wrestler by a large margin — 1:13.

It is interesting to note that Munkh-Erdene Bathuyag, who became the winner of the Yarygin Cup 2026, is also a medalist of the U-23 World Championship 2023 in Tirana. Notably, the Mongolian team did not participate in this championship, and Munkh-Erdene, along with his coach, decided to go at their own expense and achieved success by winning medals. At the 2025 World Championship, he lost to Armenian wrestler Arsen Arutyunyan in the round of 16 with a score of 8:13.

Bronze medals were also won by Mongolian athletes: Bolortuyaa Khurelkhuu in the 59 kg weight category and Enkhjin Tuvshinjargal in the 65 kg weight category.
