In 2025, Tajikistan significantly increased its electricity exports to neighboring countries, totaling 5.356 billion kWh. This is an increase of 37.3% or 1.454 billion kWh compared to the previous year. This was reported by "Asia-Plus" based on data from the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan.
The main recipients of Tajik electricity include the following countries:
▪️ Afghanistan, which received 1.8 billion kWh, amounting to 742 million somoni ($79.1 million) and over 80% of the total exports to these three countries;
▪️ Uzbekistan, which imported 895 million kWh worth 170 million somoni ($18.1 million);
▪️ Kyrgyzstan, which was supplied with 12 million kWh worth 1 million somoni ($106.6 thousand).
Overall, electricity exports to these countries brought Tajikistan 913 million somoni ($97.3 million), while the total volume of supplies amounted to 2.7 billion kWh.
The Ministry noted that over 90% of the total exports occurred during the period from April to September, when there is an increase in river flow.

At the same time, Tajikistan significantly increased its electricity imports. In 2025, the republic purchased 2.7 billion kWh, which is 67% more compared to the previous year. Of this volume, 2.688 billion kWh was imported from Uzbekistan during the winter period, while 13.9 million kWh came from Kyrgyzstan, which receives electricity from Tajikistan in the summer.
Electricity losses in 2025 amounted to about 4 billion kWh, which equals 15% of the total generation. This figure is 3.6% lower than in 2024.
