Former German Chancellor Calls on Europe to Return to Cheap Energy Supplies from Russia
He proposed to start with the purchase of electricity from Russia
Gerhard Schröder, the former Chancellor of Germany, advocated for the resumption of purchasing cheap energy resources from Russia to help Europe cope with inflationary pressures and high tariffs. These words were published in Berliner Zeitung.
According to Schröder, "this is not a barbaric country, but a homeland with a rich history and culture." He emphasized the need to develop cooperation with Russia and expressed confidence in the correctness of his policies, which he defended while in office as Chancellor. "Practice shows that the supply of cheap and safe energy from Russia is reliable, especially in combination with my proposals on how to make gas exploration and supply more environmentally friendly using advanced technologies from Germany," he noted in his column.
However, he also added that the invasion of Ukraine is "unjustified" and violates international law. "The European community must do everything possible to end this war," the former Chancellor emphasized.
