In Uzbekistan, a demographic decline is recorded alongside a simultaneous increase in marriages with foreigners.
In 2025, the birth rate and the number of marriages in Uzbekistan decreased; however, the number of unions with foreigners has been steadily increasing for several years, reports podrobno.uz.
Marriages
In the first half of 2021, 300 marriages with foreigners were registered in Uzbekistan. In 2022, this figure increased to 1,900, and in 2023, it amounted to 1,800. In 2025, the number of such marriages reached 3,400.
At the same time, the number of marriages between citizens of Uzbekistan continues to decline. In 2025, 267,100 marriages were registered, which is 1.7% less than in 2024 (271,800), where the lowest level in the last 15 years was recorded.
Marriages concluded after the age of 30 are also becoming rare: in 2025, 39,900 such unions were registered, which is 6.8% less compared to the previous year. The majority of marriages (227,300) are concluded before the age of 30.
Birth Rate
In 2025, 884,500 children were born in Uzbekistan, which is 5.3% less compared to 2024 (926,400). A decline in the birth rate is observed in almost all regions of the country.
The highest number of newborns in 2025 was registered in Samarkand region — 105,800, Kashkadarya region — 99,000, and Fergana region — 98,000.
The lowest birth rates were recorded in Navoi region — 24,100, Jizzakh region — 36,700, and Karakalpakstan — 38,600. In Tashkent, 71,400 children were born, and in Tashkent region — 63,500; both figures are lower than in the previous year.
There is also a noted increase in late parenthood: in 2025, 6,100 women became mothers after the age of 40, and among men, about 600 became fathers after the age of 60, with the oldest father being 81 years old.
The number of twins is also increasing: in 2024, there were 21,100 cases registered, and in 2025 — 21,800.
