The wife of the former president of South Korea was found guilty of corruption.
The Central District Court of the capital of South Korea, Seoul, has issued a ruling in the case of Kim Gon Hee, the wife of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, finding her guilty of corrupt actions. This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing a live broadcast of the court session on Wednesday.
The court session, which took place on January 28 at 14:10 local time (8:10 MSK), was conducted by the criminal division No. 27 of the Central District Court of Seoul, where the verdict was announced.
This event was notable as it marked the first time in history that a first-instance court ruling for a former first lady was broadcast live.
Kim Gon Hee, the wife of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, who unsuccessfully attempted to impose martial law in the country on December 3, 2024, was accused of several crimes, including manipulating the securities of Deutsch Motors, receiving expensive gifts from the religious organization "Unification Church" in exchange for providing business services, as well as falsifying public opinion polls during elections.
Special prosecutor Min Jung Ki requested a 15-year prison sentence for Kim Gon Hee in December 2025.
