The Chinese company ENGINEAI Robotics Technology has announced the start of cooperation with the aerospace firm Interstellor to implement an ambitious project — the creation of a space robot based on the humanoid platform PM01, as reported by Kazinform, citing Gasgoo.
This initiative will be the first example in China's history of using anthropomorphic robots in the field of space exploration, demonstrating the development of artificial intelligence and aerospace engineering technologies.
The PM01 robot, which is a key development of ENGINEAI, has a precise environmental perception system. It uses data from multiple sensors to control its movements in real-time and is capable of making decisions independently based on algorithms developed by the company. Its functionality includes analyzing situations and performing tasks in rapidly changing conditions.
Company specialists emphasize that the requirements for robots in space are significantly higher than on Earth. They must be reliable, adaptive, and autonomous, as the robot is expected to operate in a vacuum, under microgravity, face sharp temperature fluctuations, and high levels of radiation.
As part of this partnership, ENGINEAI will focus on developing motion control systems, adapting to complex conditions, and artificial intelligence algorithms, while Interstellor will provide its expertise in aerospace engineering and space mission preparation. The companies have already conducted a series of joint simulations and risk assessments.
It is anticipated that such robots will be able to perform inspections, carry out maintenance, and operate in hazardous areas, which will reduce risks for astronauts and lessen their workload. Furthermore, the extreme conditions of flight will serve as an excellent platform for testing the reliability and resilience of intelligent systems, and the research results may be used to improve industrial technologies on Earth.
