Migrants in the Russian Federation
During this meeting, key aspects concerning labor migration and the improvement of migration processes were discussed, as mentioned by the Russian diplomatic mission.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reported that special attention was paid to the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of Uzbek citizens working in Russia. "The Uzbek side emphasized the critical importance of preventing any violations of the rights and dignity of citizens of our country, both those who comply with the law and those who may have committed violations of migration norms, during migration checks," the ministry's statement said.

The discussion also involved the consuls general of Uzbekistan located in various regions of Russia, while the Russian side included the leadership of the consular department, employees dealing with migration issues, and representatives of law enforcement agencies.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan noted that the meeting confirmed the mutual desire to develop a constructive and respectful dialogue aimed at streamlining migration processes and creating favorable conditions for Uzbek citizens engaged in labor activities in Russia.

The parties agreed on the necessity of regular consultations to improve interaction and strengthen cooperation.

Last week, migration raids took place in St. Petersburg, during which 95 foreign citizens were detained from the distribution center of X5 Group, as well as 280 individuals after checks in "Perekrestok" supermarkets in the city and region.

Last summer, Uzbekistan expressed concern regarding reports of unauthorized checks and harsh treatment of Uzbek citizens in Russia, calling for adherence to international norms and human rights.

The Embassy of Uzbekistan sent a note to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs requesting clarifications regarding the situation in Moscow, where OMON officers allegedly used physical force against foreign citizens working temporarily.

Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Moscow is carefully studying the information contained in the note. She emphasized that Russia values its "strong relations of alliance and comprehensive strategic partnership" with Uzbekistan.

In May, the Russian ambassador was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, where he was informed about cases of mistreatment of labor migrants.
