Trump stated that Iran wants a deal amid the redeployment of American forces to the region
According to the president, a "huge armada" is near Iran, and he is confident that the Iranian side wants to discuss the possibility of a deal. "They have called many times, and they want to talk," Trump said.
Earlier this month, Trump considered the possibility of giving the order for military strikes on Iranian targets in response to the deaths of protesters; however, he later postponed this decision, opting instead to strengthen military presence in the region to avoid direct intervention.
Nevertheless, U.S. administration officials emphasize that the option of using force is still being considered, despite the suppression of protests in Iran.
An American aircraft carrier strike group has already been deployed to the region, including the USS Abraham Lincoln, which has entered the area of responsibility of U.S. Central Command. Additionally, the U.S. has sent extra F-15 and F-35 fighter jets, refueling aircraft, and air defense systems.
According to Axios, there is no consensus among Trump's advisors. Some urge the president to adhere to the established "red line" and punish Iranian authorities for their repression, while others doubt the effectiveness of airstrikes and suggest using regime weakening as a means to achieve an agreement.
U.S. authorities believe that any potential agreement should include the removal of all enriched uranium from Iran, restrictions on the missile program, cessation of support for proxy forces in the region, and a ban on independent uranium enrichment.
The Iranian news agency IRNA reports that Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei stated the country's readiness to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, emphasizing Tehran's high defensive potential.
It is worth noting that in the summer of 2025, Iranian nuclear facilities sustained serious damage as a result of attacks by the U.S. and Israel, and in December of the same year, the country was engulfed in the largest internal unrest. In this context, Trump has repeatedly threatened harsh measures in response to the executions of protest participants.
