Thailand Tightens Health Oversight Due to Nipah Virus
In light of recent cases of Nipah virus infection in the Indian state of West Bengal, Thai authorities have intensified health control measures. This was reported by NBT World.
Acting Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul stated the need for measures to prevent possible cases of infection. He also added that, to date, no cases of Nipah virus have been registered in the country.
According to the Thai Department of Disease Control and Prevention, a state of heightened readiness has been implemented in the kingdom, which includes preventive measures to prevent the spread of the virus. Specialists recommend thoroughly washing hands after contact with animals, especially bats, and avoiding the consumption of fallen fruits if there are bite marks on them. It is important to note that the Nipah virus is not transmitted through airborne droplets, as is the case with COVID-19; its spread among people is possible through saliva or blood.
Medical monitoring of passengers arriving from India has been intensified at Phuket International Airport. The airport is cooperating with medical institutions in Phuket and Phang Nga province to determine whether passengers from India have sought medical assistance for symptoms that may indicate Nipah infection. The initial manifestations of the disease may resemble the flu.
