At the debates held on February 8, timed to coincide with the elections for the lower house of parliament, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takahichi stated that if the coalition of her Liberal Democratic Party and the "Japan Renewal Party" (also known as "Nippon Ishin no Kai") does not secure more than half of the seats, she is ready to resign. These words were reported by RIA Novosti.
In response to a question about the possible consequences of the decline in her government's rating after the dissolution of parliament, Takahichi noted: "I do not feel anxious! Usually, after such events, the rating drops significantly, but our decline is not that great. If the LDP and the Japan Renewal Party do not succeed, I will not be able to continue my work as Prime Minister and implement my plans. Therefore, in the event of defeat, I will immediately resign. I will do my best, with optimism and determination."
According to the latest poll data, Takahichi's government rating still remains at 60%, although it shows a partial decline of 4 to 10 percentage points depending on the source.
We remind you that the elections for the lower house of the Japanese parliament are scheduled for February 8.
