Zelensky: Ukraine's position on territories has not changed, and all parties — including the Americans — must be ready for compromise.
Vladimir Zelensky
During a joint press conference in Vilnius with Lithuanian leader Gitanas Nausėda and Karolis Navickas, Zelensky noted that a 20-point plan for ending military actions was discussed in the United Arab Emirates, as well as "problematic issues" developed by Washington at the end of the previous year and subsequently revised multiple times.
The President of Ukraine emphasized that while the number of problematic issues has decreased, there are still many. He also pointed out that Russia aims to eliminate Ukraine from the eastern part of the country: "For quite a long time, they want to make it so that Ukraine does not exist," Zelensky stated.
He clarified that Ukraine's position on territorial issues remains unchanged: "Our position is known. We are defending our country and our lands," he added.
Zelensky also expressed hope for receiving security guarantees from the U.S. and Europe, which, in his opinion, would help establish specific timelines for ending the conflict: "Bilateral security guarantees with the United States are important for us. The document is fully prepared, and we expect confirmation from our partners regarding the date and place of signing," he stated.
Earlier, U.S. Special Representative Steve Witkoff reported that the document on security guarantees is nearly complete, but some key questions remain open.
The President of Ukraine added that the U.S. is actively working on finding a solution to end the conflict and emphasized that a compromise must be found by all parties, including the Americans: "Americans are striving to find a compromise. We are taking steps towards communication in a trilateral format. But for a compromise to be achieved, all parties, including the U.S., must be ready for it," Zelensky concluded.
