The President of Romania stated that the population of Moldova does not support unification with Romania
According to Dan, unification will only be possible if the majority of the population of Moldova supports this idea. In response to a question about Bucharest's readiness to discuss such an option, he noted: “We will be ready when the majority in the Republic of Moldova wants it. At the moment, we are not ready for this.”
According to a recent survey conducted in August, 61.5% of respondents in Moldova opposed unification with Romania, while 31% of respondents supported this initiative. Additionally, 60% are against Moldova joining NATO, while Romania is a member of this military alliance.
Earlier, Maia Sandu, the President of Moldova, expressed support for the idea of holding a referendum on the possibility of unification with Romania, but noted that the majority of citizens do not wish to lose their sovereignty.
