Global losses from natural disasters in 2025 amounted to $260 billion
Last year, the damage to insured property amounted to $127 billion. The largest share of this damage occurred in the United States, where losses reached about $100 billion. Of this, nearly $41 billion was related to catastrophic wildfires in California, which became the largest in the state's history.
According to Aon, hurricanes, storms, and typhoons caused damage amounting to $61 billion in 2025. The most significant losses were from Hurricane "Melissa," with material losses estimated at $11 billion, of which $9 billion was incurred by Jamaica, where the damage accounted for 40% of the annual GDP. The insurance company also noted that 2025 entered history as the third hottest year. Extreme temperature conditions resulted in the deaths of at least 25,000 people worldwide.
