China has developed an energy-efficient chip for AI
Researchers from Peking University have introduced an innovative analog chip that significantly outperforms current digital architectures in several key characteristics, as reported by Kazinform, citing the South China Morning Post.
According to the information, the new chip demonstrates a processing speed 12 times greater than that of digital counterparts, while its energy consumption is reduced by more than 200 times. This chip is capable of processing real data, which changes the perception of the dependence of artificial intelligence systems on energy-intensive digital processors.
The architecture of the new device is designed for both simple calculations and more complex tasks, such as image processing and generating personalized recommendations.
The effectiveness of this solution has been tested on data scales comparable to those of major platforms like Netflix and Yahoo. During trials of media content compression, the chip was able to reduce memory usage by half while maintaining image quality at a level indistinguishable from the results of high-precision digital computations.
