The final decision on the start of the month of Ramadan will be made at the meeting of the Council of Ulema in February. At this meeting, the amounts of zakat al-fitr (charity that Muslims are required to give during the fast), zakat, and fidya will also be announced, as noted by the Committee. Last year, Ramadan began on March 1.
