In canceling the invitation, Trump published a message on his social network Truth Social, where he noted that Canada would not be able to become part of "the most prestigious Council of Leaders ever created." Just a week prior, representatives from Carney's office confirmed receipt of the invitation and expressed their intention to accept it. The "Council of Peace" was originally conceived to monitor compliance with peace conditions in the Gaza Strip and received support in the form of a resolution from the UN Security Council. Later, Trump expanded the powers of this body so that it could address conflicts in other regions as well. The invitation to participate in the organization includes 58 countries, including Russia; however, such US allies as the United Kingdom, France, and Italy are currently refraining from participation.
