- Kiev continues to face serious heating problems following attacks on energy infrastructure. According to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, as of January 22, about 3,000 residential buildings remain without heat, and power outages continue in the city.
- In the Kursk region, as a result of actions by the Ukrainian army, at least 524 people have died, according to Tatyana Moskalkova, the Human Rights Commissioner in Russia. She reported that the bodies were found in mass graves since August 6, 2024.
- During his visit to Davos, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with U.S. President Donald Trump. The talks lasted less than an hour, and both leaders assessed them as successful.
- U.S. Special Envoy Steve Whitcoff and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, held a meeting with Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin. They were accompanied by Josh Grünbaum, the new advisor to Trump’s “Council of Peace.” The negotiations lasted about 3.5 hours, and Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov described them as "useful in every respect," adding that Russia would continue its actions until a political settlement is achieved.
- In the UAE, trilateral negotiations between Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S. are scheduled. Volodymyr Zelensky announced that they would begin on Friday and conclude on Saturday. The Ukrainian delegation will be led by high-ranking officials, including Kyrylo Budanov and Rustem Umerov, while the Russian delegation will be headed by GRU Chief Igor Kostyukov and representatives from the Ministry of Defense.
- In his speech at the forum in Davos, Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized Europe's indecisiveness, noting that it is not building the necessary military capabilities and is overly reliant on U.S. support.
- French naval forces, in cooperation with the United Kingdom, detained the tanker Grinch in the Mediterranean Sea on suspicion of using a false flag. The tanker was en route from Murmansk and is under sanctions.
- As a result of a strike on Kryvyi Rih, 11 people were injured, including three children.
- A trial has begun in Vienna against Egisto Otta, a former employee of the Austrian Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Counter-Terrorism. He is accused of espionage in favor of Russia, treason, threatening Austria's security, as well as abuse of power and bribery.
