Mongolia and Turkey Collaborate on Archaeological Research in the Tuul River Valley
The signed memorandum envisions the implementation of a joint project focused on archaeological monuments related to the period of the Turkic Khaganate, located in the valley of the Tuu River. Important aspects of this project will include ethnoarchaeology, the study of climate change, as well as the preservation and protection of historical and cultural heritage, including risk management.
The five-year project will involve the participation of professional institutions from Mongolia working in fields such as history, archaeology, ethnology, linguistics, and natural sciences, as well as local authorities.
As part of this project, joint archaeological and scientific research is planned, as well as the creation of a unified database that collects the results of these studies. The agreement also implies the exchange of scientific and professional experts, the organization of training courses, seminars, and scientific conferences in the field of archaeology and cultural heritage, as well as the preparation of joint publications.
The results of the collaborative work are expected to help assess the conditions for the preservation and protection of cultural heritage sites in the valley of the Tuu River, as well as develop strategies to mitigate the effects of climate change. It is anticipated that this will strengthen bilateral relations in the field of archaeological research and cultural heritage, enhance the level of academic cooperation, introduce new methods for heritage protection, and deepen public understanding of the values of cultural heritage.
