Reuters: Repairs at Kazakhstan's largest oil field may extend until February

It is expected that the resumption of oil production at Tengiz will not occur before the end of the current week; however, according to one source, this process may be delayed until February.

It is known that the operator of the field, Tengizchevroil, has already canceled the shipment of five batches of CPC Blend oil, totaling about 600-700 thousand tons, which were supposed to be sent through the Black Sea terminal of CPC in January and February.

At the moment, the situation has not significantly affected the overall oil production volumes in Kazakhstan, as other large fields, such as Kashagan and Karachaganak, are increasing their output. Nevertheless, if the downtime at Tengiz continues, CPC may begin to reduce pumping within a few days, warns the source.

Recall that on January 18, a fire occurred on two transformers at the GTES-4 substation in Tengiz. The fire was extinguished, and the personnel were evacuated. The causes of the incident are still unknown. The next day, Tengizchevroil announced the suspension of oil production at Tengiz and the Royal field "due to power supply issues."

Tengiz is the largest oil and gas field in Kazakhstan, located in the Atyrau region, approximately 350 km southeast of the city of Atyrau. The Royal field is located just 20 km northeast of Tengiz. Both sites are developed by Tengizchevroil, in which 50% of the shares belong to Chevron, 25% to Exxon Mobil, 20% to KazMunayGas (a subsidiary of Samruk-Kazyna), and 5% to the Russian company Lukoil.

The majority of the oil produced by Tengizchevroil is exported through the CPC system; however, due to damage at the marine terminal in Southern Ozerievka (near Novorossiysk), some volumes are also redirected to the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline and to Germany via the Druzhba pipeline.
