Aliyev: Azerbaijan and Armenia have closed the chapter on war

Ilham Aliyev
President Aliyev also noted that the continuation of the conflict would lead to endless suffering and new casualties. "Someone had to stop this war, and we made the decision to end it," he emphasized.

According to the president, the joint decision to cease hostilities was made based on agreements reached on August 8, 2025, in Washington, during a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and U.S. President Donald Trump. He added that these agreements are already beginning to yield real results.

Aliyev stated that expectations from the intervention of international organizations in the conflict were not met. He cited the resolutions of the UN Security Council, which demanded the withdrawal of Armenian troops from Nagorno-Karabakh, but were never implemented. Furthermore, he reported a transition in relations with Armenia towards cooperation, including the removal of barriers for cargo transit and the supply of strategically important goods, such as petroleum products, to Yerevan.
