OpenAI has announced the implementation of a new feature in ChatGPT that will allow the determination of users' ages, which will help identify minors, according to the company's press release.
The message emphasizes: “We are adding age verification to the consumer subscription plans of ChatGPT to establish whether users are under 18, thereby providing teenagers with a safe and appropriate experience.”
To determine age, ChatGPT will use a model that analyzes behavioral signals as well as parameters such as account age, user activity time, and stated age.
OpenAI also noted that users who have been mistakenly classified as minors will be able to verify their age by submitting a photo through the Persona identity verification service, which will allow them to regain full access to ChatGPT.
In September, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, reported on the expansion of measures to protect user privacy and enhance safety for minors, stating that the implementation of the age verification feature is one of these initiatives.
ChatGPT has become popular since its launch in late November 2022, gathering its first million users in less than a week. It is worth noting that one of the co-founders of OpenAI in 2015 is American billionaire Elon Musk, who subsequently severed ties with the company.
