In Chile, 19 people have become victims of wildfires
According to Reuters, a large-scale evacuation of residents has begun in the country, while firefighters continue to battle more than 30 hotspots. The situation is complicated by strong winds and abnormally high temperatures.
A state of emergency has been declared in the central Biobío region and the neighboring Ñuble region. Chilean authorities report that the fire has destroyed 325 homes, and more than a thousand buildings have been damaged.
Chilean President Gabriel Boric noted that the area engulfed by fire covers at least 30,000 hectares. He also added that international aid is arriving in the country, including additional firefighting teams and humanitarian cargo from Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil.
