Lavrov refuted Trump's words about Russia's plans to seize Greenland

Sergey Lavrov
“I am absolutely sure that Washington is aware of the absence of any plans in this regard,” Lavrov added. He also noted that the American authorities likely understand that similar claims do not come from China either.

Russia is closely monitoring the developments surrounding Greenland, viewing this situation as a “serious geopolitical problem.” Lavrov believes that discussions related to Greenland are tied to the consequences of colonial past.

Greenland was a Danish colony until 1953, after which, in 2009, the island gained autonomy and the right to self-governance, while remaining part of the kingdom. U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed a desire to gain control over Greenland, basing his statements on assumptions about the presence of Russian and Chinese vessels in the region. The Danish armed forces have refuted these claims, noting the absence of threats from Moscow or Beijing.
