Trump made this statement after journalists informed him of Macron's intention to decline the invitation to join the Gaza Peace Council, as reported by Bloomberg.

The U.S. President stated: “He is not needed by anyone, as he will soon leave his post. I will impose 200% tariffs on his [French] wines and champagne, and he will agree [to join the Peace Council].”

Additionally, Trump published a personal message he received from Macron on his social media.

In this message, the French president expresses confusion regarding Trump's actions concerning Greenland and suggests organizing several meetings, including a personal dinner in Davos.

Macron is also ready to invite representatives from Ukraine and Russia to these meetings.

In his letter, he noted:

“My friend,

We completely agree on Syria. There is an opportunity to make significant steps regarding Iran. I do not understand what you are planning with Greenland.

Let's do something meaningful:

1. I can organize a G7 meeting in Paris after Davos on Thursday afternoon. I will invite Ukrainians, Danes, Syrians, and Russians - on the sidelines.

2. Let’s have dinner in Paris on Thursday, before your return to the U.S.,” Macron's message reads.

According to Bloomberg, Macron intends to decline Trump's invitation to join the Peace Council, which was confirmed on January 19. According to the source, the French president believes that the goals of the new organization go beyond just the Gaza sector, as initially suggested. This was also reported by Le Monde, citing its sources.

The establishment of the Peace Council was announced by Trump on January 16, the same day he introduced its executive committee, which included U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff, the president's son-in-law Jared Kushner, and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. According to the charter, the organization will initially focus on resolving issues in the Gaza sector and then expand its powers to other conflicts.

Bloomberg also noted that the Trump administration requires countries wishing to obtain a permanent seat on the Council to contribute at least $1 billion. The first chairman of the Council will be Trump himself, who will be able to decide who will be admitted to the organization, as well as approve or reject decisions made by a majority vote.
