The process of denouncing three key agreements that define Moldova's membership in the Commonwealth of Independent States has begun. This was announced by the country's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Popșoi. He noted that the consideration of these documents is planned for the first session of the new parliament, as reported by local media.

The minister specified that the agreements in question are: the CIS Charter, signed on January 22, 1993, in Minsk; the Agreement on the Establishment of the CIS from December 8, 1991, also signed in Minsk; and the Appendix to this agreement, signed on December 22, 1991.

When asked about the consequences of this step for Moldova, Popșoi explained that the country will officially withdraw from the CIS. "The denunciation of these fundamental agreements will allow us to legally confirm that the Republic of Moldova is no longer a member of the CIS. Although we have actually suspended our participation some time ago, legally we remained part of the organization," he added.

Popșoi also noted that the process has already been initiated. "We recently made this decision, and the coordination procedure is actively ongoing. The documents for denunciation will be submitted to parliament for a decision. We expect to complete all necessary procedures in the government by mid-February, after which parliament will make the final decision," the minister summarized.

He also emphasized that this measure will help clarify Moldova's legal status in relation to the CIS and will be "an important step towards strengthening the country's European orientation."
