The National Winter Sports Festival Promotes Traditional Sports of Mongolia
The winter stage competitions of the Mongolian National Sports Festival, including "shooting on ice with knuckles" ("Мөсний шагай") and ice contests, are scheduled to take place from January 22 to 25. The venue will be the ice rink in Khandgait and the entertainment complex "Uukhain Duu" in Tsonjin Boldog.
At the previous festival, held in 2022, 426 athletes from 21 aimags and nine districts participated, among which 126 competed in ice archery. This year, approximately 600 participants from the same regions have registered so far.
The festival, which takes place every four years, was founded in 1998 by Bayanmönkh Khurloo, an outstanding figure in physical education and sports, a Hero of Labor, a Honored Athlete, and a Great Champion in wrestling. This year, the event will be held for the eighth time.
The national festival represents an important step in passing on the traditions and etiquette of national sports to future generations, as well as contributing to the scientific development of traditional sports and the formulation of relevant policies.
