In Indonesia, a missing airplane was found at the top of a mountain
The loss of contact with the aircraft occurred on January 17 in the Maros district. There were 11 people on board, including eight crew members.
During the search operation conducted on Sunday morning, the ATR 42-500 aircraft was found. The first signs of its location became known around 07:17 (02:17 Moscow time) — an air patrol spotted white debris in the hilly terrain around Mount Bulusaraung.
Later, large fragments of the aircraft were discovered on the northern slope of the mountain, and the fuselage was found around 08:09 (03:09 Moscow time).
Evacuation efforts depend on weather conditions, which at the crash site are characterized by strong winds and fog. Helicopters continue to search for a suitable landing site and to deploy rescue teams.
The aircraft was operating a flight from Yogyakarta to Makassar. At the time of publication, there was no official information about casualties or survivors.
