Lithuania accused six foreigners of terrorism
The Lithuanian investigation reports that citizens of Spain, Colombia, and Cuba are also involved in the case, as well as a person with dual citizenship of Spain and Colombia. In 2024, they attempted to set fire to the production facilities of UAB TVC Solutions in Šiauliai, where the value of the property that was attacked exceeds 4 million euros.
The first arson attempt took place on the night of September 17, 2024. According to the investigation, a citizen of Spain and a person with dual citizenship participated in this incident. However, they were unable to complete their plan as they were scared off by passersby.
The second attempt occurred on September 22, 2024, and it is believed that a Russian and a Belarusian were involved. They were convinced that the arson was successful and left the scene. However, it later turned out that no real damage was done, as the means they used failed to ignite the goods stored in the warehouse.
The Lithuanian authorities believe that the accused acted on the instructions of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, known as the GRU. According to the police, the coordination of the crime was conducted by individuals located in Russia and connected to military intelligence.
Furthermore, the investigation suggests that all the accused may be linked to similar attacks that took place in Poland, Romania, and the Czech Republic. To date, they are in custody in Lithuania.
There are also reports of an investigation into four more suspects. One of them was arrested in Colombia under an international warrant, while the others are wanted.
The Lithuanian authorities believe that the goal of this group was to create an atmosphere of fear, hinder support for Ukraine amid the Russian military invasion, and destabilize the political and social situation in Western countries.
