In 2025, Mongolia exported 83.9 million tons of coal

According to the statement from the General Department of Customs and Taxation, this is 5.6% more than in the same period of the previous year.

The economy of Mongolia is largely dependent on the mining sector and the export of mineral resources. In 2025, mining products, including coal, copper, and iron ore, accounted for 99.2% of the total export volume of the country.

The Tavan Tolgoi coal deposit, located in the southern aimag of Ömnögovi, is one of the main sources of coal in the country. It is one of the largest undeveloped deposits of coking and thermal coal in the world, with estimated reserves of 6.5 billion tons, of which a quarter consists of high-quality coking coals.
