Buenos Aires surpassed Moscow in cost of living

The Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, in a recent analysis by RIA Novosti based on open data, demonstrated a higher cost of living index compared to Moscow, which is linked to the ongoing double-digit inflation in the country.

According to data from the Numbeo platform, the cost of living index in Moscow is 47.5, while in Buenos Aires it is 49.2.

Interestingly, living expenses in the Russian capital (excluding rent) are 3.4% lower than in the Argentine capital, according to information from the portal.

Food prices in Moscow are 12.5% lower than in Buenos Aires, and purchasing power in the Russian capital is higher by 82.1%. Dining in restaurants is also more affordable in Moscow—24.2% cheaper.

However, renting housing in Moscow is significantly more expensive: rental costs in the Russian capital exceed those in Buenos Aires by 88.1%, according to the service's data.

Numbeo is the world's largest online database of cost of living, formed based on information from users.

According to the latest data from the National Institute of Statistics of Argentina, inflation in the country in November 2025 was 2.5% month-on-month, and over 11 months reached 27.9%. Meanwhile, by the end of 2024, inflation in Argentina slowed down compared to 2023 but still remains at a high level—117.8%.
