The thermonuclear installation BEST has reached the final stage of assembly
While in Hefei, the BEST installation, or "Artificial Sun," has reached the final stage of its assembly. According to CCTV News, the level of localization of equipment at this stage is 93.4%.
Remarkably, among the components of the installation, there are more than 660 unique devices that have no analogs in the world. As reported by sources, within the framework of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), it is planned to increase the share of domestic production to 100%.
After the construction is completed, the installation is expected to demonstrate its ability for long-term and stable operation in long pulse mode, and then transition to energy generation through thermonuclear fusion. Developers anticipate that by 2030, the device will be able to "light a lamp" for the first time using the energy of controlled thermonuclear fusion. The foundation of the project is the technology of magnetic confinement of plasma using superconducting magnets and special fuel spheres capable of withstanding temperatures up to 1620 °C.
It was previously reported that on October 1, a key element of the cryostat was successfully installed.
