Heavy snowfall temporarily halted the operations of Moscow airports
The ministry stated that since the beginning of the day, 603 flights had been serviced for arrivals and departures, of which 214 were at "Sheremetyevo." This airport had virtually no incoming flights from 04:10 to 11:00 Moscow time, although departures continued. The adjustments were initiated by the Ministry of Transport and Rosaviatsiya to allow time for snow removal and to improve the situation with baggage handling.
The agency noted that over one million cubic meters of snow had been cleared from the airfields in one day, which is equivalent to the load of approximately 100,000 KamAZ dump trucks. "Sheremetyevo" reported that baggage delivery had been completed, and there were no crowds of passengers in the baggage claim area. For some passengers, baggage delivery to their addresses was organized.
After 15:00 Moscow time, the airports resumed accepting and sending flights, and airlines continue to operate according to the updated schedule.
