The incident occurred with a rhinoceros named Marusya when a muntjac, feeling threatened by the hormonal activity of its partner, displayed aggression. According to the zookeeper, it perceived the rhinoceros as a rival.

However, Marusya, as noted by specialists, was not aggressive and viewed the muntjac's actions more as play. Only when the rhinoceros slightly withdrew did she snort, signaling that she did not wish to continue the interaction.

The zoo explained that such encounters are not uncommon; in the wild, muntjacs and Indian rhinoceroses inhabit the same regions and often graze nearby, avoiding conflicts, which is why they are kept together in the same enclosure.
