Trump announced a U.S. ground operation against Mexican drug cartels

President of the United States Donald Trump announced an upcoming strike against drug cartels in Mexico in an interview with Fox News.
“We are going to start hitting the cartels on the ground right now. The cartels control Mexico,” Trump noted. He added that the US has managed to intercept 97% of drugs coming through maritime routes and is now preparing to begin ground operations against the cartels.
Since the beginning of September, the US military has targeted vessels off the coast of Venezuela that, according to President Trump, are involved in drug trafficking. On the night of January 3, American forces carried out strikes on Caracas, resulting in the detention of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores. Trump also does not rule out the possibility of expanding military operations against drug cartels in Latin America and the Caribbean, including Mexico and Colombia.
