Ulaanbaatar to Include Elementary School Students in the "Milk Program"

511

In this academic year, 189,600 elementary school students in Ulaanbaatar will participate in the "Milk Program."
Starting in 2024, the office of the governor of Ulaanbaatar will regularly provide milk to 19,000 students in some schools in the city two to three times a week. To expand this initiative, the city budget for 2026 allocates 8.9 billion tugriks, which will allow for the provision of milk to 189,000 children in grades 1-5 of public schools once a week.

According to the governor's office, surveys conducted among students and their parents in schools where milk has been served regularly since 2024 show that the consumption of milk, rich in vitamin D and calcium, contributes to improved dental health and strengthens children's immunity, as well as reduces the likelihood of bone fragility. Thus, this year, funding for milk on one day will be provided by the governor's administration, on another day by local authorities, and on the third day by parents, allowing children to receive milk three times a week. This approach is expected to positively impact the physical development, health, and academic performance of students. Global experience, particularly from countries such as China, South Korea, and Japan, shows that regular milk consumption supports children's growth. In this regard, starting in 2024, a targeted program called "Milk Immunity" will be implemented to support the growth and physical development of children.
