Taikonauts Conducted Experiments with Lithium-Ion Batteries

Taikonauts conducted experiments with lithium-ion batteries

On the space orbital station "Tiangong," taikonauts conducted experiments aimed at studying lithium-ion batteries in microgravity conditions. This was reported by the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

This experiment was carried out by the crew members of the "Shenzhou-21" spacecraft in collaboration with scientists from China who are on Earth.

The main task set for the researchers was to study the influence of microgravity on the processes occurring inside the batteries. This will help obtain important scientific data that can enhance the efficiency of energy systems in spacecraft.

Additionally, as noted in the academy's statement, the space environment with its unique conditions is ideally suited for analyzing the distribution of chemical substances in electrolytes.

The construction of the national orbital station "Tiangong" began on April 29, 2021, with the successful launch of the core module "Tianhe" into orbit. The assembly of the main configuration of the station was completed on November 3, 2022. The T-shaped basic configuration of the station includes the core module "Tianhe" and two laboratory modules "Wentian" and "Mengtian," which together weigh about 69 tons. The living space on the station is approximately 110 cubic meters, allowing for the accommodation of up to three people simultaneously or six during crew changes. The expected lifespan of the station is 15 years, which implies its operation until 2038.
