As a result of the flooding in Indonesia, 14 people died

On Monday morning, heavy rains began on Siau Island, in the Siau Tagulandang Biaro area, leading to flooding. According to Governor Julius Selvanus, hundreds of residential and administrative buildings were destroyed. As a result of the disaster, at least 444 people were forced to leave their homes and seek shelter in local schools and churches. Search operations to find the missing continue with the participation of rescuers and volunteers.

According to local rescue services, the main roads in the affected areas are blocked by rocks, debris, and mud, making it difficult to access those in need. Authorities have organized the work of special equipment to eliminate the consequences of the flooding.

According to forecasts from the Indonesian meteorological agency, during the peak of the rainy season, which occurs in January and February, the risk of flooding increases on the islands of Java, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua. In Sumatra and Borneo, the peak of rainfall has already passed in November and December. As a result of the floods and landslides caused by the cyclone in November, more than a thousand people died in Sumatra, and hundreds are still reported missing.
