Tokaev on the power transition: It's too early to talk about this

In an interview with the Turkistan newspaper, the president noted: “It is too early to talk about this now; we have years of hard work ahead of us,” in response to a question about the transit of power.
Tokayev also commented on rumors that the proposed parliamentary reform is allegedly aimed at making the position of the Speaker of Parliament central in the country's governance system, and that the president is supposedly preparing this position for himself.
“These are just fabrications. Such claims contradict my political principles. I have repeatedly emphasized that Kazakhstan is a presidential republic. Eight years ago, before I came to Akorda, I presented the concept of ‘Strong president — influential parliament — accountable government.’ Changing the entire state system for personal interests would be extremely irresponsible and, one might say, immoral. Issues related to significant reforms are always put to a nationwide vote. There are no hidden intentions here. Everyone knows my position: political reforms will continue. Part of the long-term plans will be announced soon,” the president added.
